Packing tips for Vilnius
Vilnius has a proper continental climate with four distinct seasons — so what you pack changes dramatically depending on when you visit. The one constant is comfortable walking shoes: the Old Town's cobblestones are beautiful but unforgiving on thin soles. Heels are a bad idea.
In winter (Dec–Feb), temperatures regularly drop to −5 to −8°C and snow is common. Layer up: thermal base layer, mid-layer fleece, waterproof outer shell. It's genuinely cold, but the Christmas market and snowy baroque streets make it magical.
In summer (Jun–Aug), days are long (nearly 17 hours of daylight), temperatures reach 22–25°C and the city's outdoor café scene is in full swing. Light layers are still useful for evenings.
Lithuania is an EU Schengen country — no special documents beyond your passport or EU ID card. If you plan to visit the Curonian Spit (Neringa), note there's a small entrance fee and the ferry crossing from Klaipėda is included in most tour prices.
