About Vilnius Escape

Vilnius Escape is an independent travel guide to Vilnius, Lithuania and the surrounding region. Our goal is simple: help you plan a genuinely good trip — with honest information, real logistics, and none of the fluff that fills most travel sites.

Why Vilnius?

Vilnius is one of Europe's most underrated capitals. A UNESCO-listed baroque old town, a quirky bohemian district that declared itself an independent republic, medieval castles reachable in 30 minutes, and some of the lowest prices of any EU city. And yet it remains well off the radar for most travellers.

We think that's changing — and we want to be the most useful English-language (and French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Dutch, and Polish) resource when it does. Our coverage goes beyond the city limits: Trakai island castle, the Hill of Crosses, the Curonian Spit dunes, Kaunas's interwar modernism, and the spa forests of Druskininkai are treated as first-class destinations with real transport details, not afterthoughts.

Our approach

We research every guide thoroughly and update it when conditions change. That means:

  • Real prices in euros — Lithuania has been in the eurozone since 2015, and we give you actual meal, beer, taxi and museum costs, not vague "budget/mid-range/luxury" tiers.
  • Honest tourist-trap warnings — the restaurants on Pilies Street with aggressive touts, the overpriced amber stalls, the airport taxi scam. We name them.
  • Transport logistics that actually work — exact train and bus times, which apps to use (Bolt, not a rank taxi), how to get to the Hill of Crosses without a car.
  • Dark history treated with depth and sensitivity, not clickbait — the KGB Museum, Jewish Vilna, Paneriai.

Vilnius Escape is free to use. We earn affiliate commissions when you book tours or activities through our links to GetYourGuide and Viator (a Tripadvisor company). This costs you nothing extra — the commission comes from the platform, not from your booking price.
